This Sunday’s readings draw our attention to the end times and the hope we have in God’s promise of eternal life.
In the first reading from Daniel, we hear of a time of great distress but are given hope: those who are wise and lead others to righteousness will shine like stars forever. This passage reminds us that, even in times of trouble, God is with us, and His justice and mercy will ultimately prevail.
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus speaks of signs that will mark His return. He mentions the darkening of the sun and the falling of the stars, imagery that can seem frightening. Yet Jesus assures us that these signs point not to despair but to a new beginning. He promises that His words will never pass away, even as heaven and earth fade. While we do not know the exact day or hour, Jesus calls us to live with watchfulness and hope, ready to meet Him whenever He comes.
These readings encourage us to live with an eternal perspective. Our earthly lives, filled with challenges and uncertainties, are temporary, but our relationship with God and His promise of eternal life are unchanging.
As we approach the end of the liturgical year, let us renew our faith and trust in God’s promises. May we be people of hope, reflecting Christ’s light to others, and living each day as faithful disciples, prepared for the coming of our Lord and the fulfillment of His kingdom.
Your Priest,
Father Charles
