The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal and service organization of Catholic men established by Fr Michael J McGivney in 1882 in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. His goal was to provide solidarity for Catholic families who were being discriminated against because of ancestry, religion and status in life and to also provide support to the widows and orphans of deceased members. The Knights’ values are based on four principles: Charity, Fraternity, Unity and Patriotism. Membership is open to Catholic men of at least 18 years of age and in communion with the Holy Sea.
