Here I Am, Send Me!

Here I Am, Send Me!

Today’s readings share a powerful message about encountering God, recognizing our unworthiness, and responding to His call with faith.

In Isaiah’s vision, he sees the majesty of God surrounded by seraphim proclaiming, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. Overcome by God’s holiness, Isaiah feels unworthy and cries, Woe is me! I am a man of unclean lips. Yet, God purifies him and calls him to be His messenger. Isaiah responds, Here am I; send me! This reminds us that God does not call the perfect, He perfects those He calls.

In 1 Corinthians, Paul humbly recalls his past as a persecutor of the Church, yet he declares, By the grace of God, I am what I am. Paul acknowledges that his calling is not due to his worthiness but God’s grace. His transformation is a testament that God uses even the most broken people to spread His kingdom.

In Luke’s Gospel, Peter witnesses the miraculous catch of fish and, recognizing Jesus’ divinity, falls to his knees saying, Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man! Yet, Jesus calls him to be a fisher of people. Like Isaiah and Paul, Peter is not chosen because of his perfection but because of his willingness to follow.

This week’s reflection reminds us that God calls each of us, despite our weaknesses. The question is: Will we, like Isaiah, say, Here I am, send me Lord!
