WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE AND THE ROLE OF THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL?

Parish Pastoral Councils were developed by Vatican II (1962-1965) to provide an opportunity for parishioners to represent the interests and wisdom of the laity and give them voice. To this end a master Constitution was developed by the Archdiocese of Kingston to provide structure, purpose and objectives that could be amended by the Parish Pastoral Council with the Pastor to suit the particular needs of each parish. As a consultative voice to the Pastor, PPC works with the parish organizations and ministries to attend to the spiritual and temporal welfare of the parish and beyond. It brings together elected representatives, youth and leaders of Parish Organizations to work with the Pastor to realize the ongoing goal of being and becoming a living community of faith, worship and service.

PURPOSE AS SET OUT BY OUR PPC CONSTITUTION

  • To assist the people of God, in union with their Pastor, to exercise their role in living out and witnessing to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • To set an example of unity and cooperation to both the Parish and the entire community.
  • To bring all elements of the Parish together in order to foster the spiritual growth of all parishioners and build the parish as a living Christian community.

OBJECTIVES

  • Consult, support and/or partner with ministries, parishioners and the Pastor to identify the current needs and desires of the Parish community.
  • Engage in strategic planning exercises from time to time to develop responses or initiatives to the needs not only of the parish, but to all in need in the community and beyond.
  • Enhance the Christian life and community of the parish and reach out to join hands with other Christian churches or organizations to engage in joint initiatives to help those in need.
  • Create committees to achieve these objectives, inviting parishioners to participate on these committees to add value.
